About Catherine

Catherine Donovan has been a painter for most of her life. The daughter of an artist grew up in a creative environment, with each of her siblings being an artist or writer. She works primarily in watercolor and oil but has also worked extensively in pastels. Catherine is attuned to the natural world and enjoys painting birds and flowering plants. She says of her work:

“I do not make any political or social statement with my painting. I seek to create images that highlight the beauty of the ordinary: a common bird, a nest with eggs, and the first snowfall. I offer visual solace in an increasingly anxious world.”

Catherine has exhibited in Manchester, Vermont, Shelter Island, Rye New York, and Garden City, Long Island. Her paintings are owned by corporate and private collections. She is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in Studio Art and holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College in creative non-fiction.
